Working principle of oxygen sensor
The core element of the oxygen sensor is a zirconia tube, which is a solid electrolyte. Its inner and outer surfaces are covered with porous platinum electrodes. The inner surface is in communication with the atmosphere, and the outer surface is in contact with the exhaust gas. When the tail gas is in contact with the outer surface of the zirconium tube, the residual oxygen in the tail gas penetrates into the platinum electrode, and at a certain high temperature, a potential difference occurs between the inside and outside of the zirconium tube due to the difference in oxygen concentration. When the exhaust gas discharged from the rich-mix combustion comes into contact with the catalyst platinum, the remaining low-concentration oxygen O2 and carbon monoxide CO in the exhaust gas almost all participate in the chemical reaction. The O2 oxygen concentration on the platinum surface is 0, and the CO concentration is also reduced, so the oxygen concentration is The difference becomes very large, resulting in a potential difference of about 1v.
